About Rameshwaram
Rameshwaram is one of India’s most sacred sites and is situated on a beautiful island, which is under Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu. This island is connected to the mainland by the Pamban Bridge. This rail bridge is about 2100 mtr. long and built over the Bay of Bengal.
Important Facts
It is the birth place of the greatest man of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the missile man. From the ages Rameshwaram has been in the list of Hindu pilgrims and travellers, who visit this holy place at least once a year. In the Hindu epic Ramayana, it is written that after the conquest of the kingdom, Lord Rama, the king of Ayodhya, prayed to Shiva here. There are countless religious beliefs associated with the construction of the bridge, Ram Setu. According to Ramayana, Ram Setu was built under the leadership of Lord Ram to rescue Sita, who was kidnapped and taken to Sri Lanka.
