The Shantadurga temple of Goa’s Kavalem village is dedicated to the goddess Shantadurga. Goddess Shantadurga is an incarnation of Durga. This temple is actually a private complex of gaud sarswat community. It is said that, once Shiva and Vishnu were in a battle and to stop them goddess Parvati came as Shantadurga as per Brahma’s request. The present temple was built during the domination of Chhatrapati Shahu, the Maratha ruler.
Its pyramid shape rises in front of the ‘shikara’ (the entrance hall) and on the roof of the ‘meeting hall’ (the main hall).
This temples has no entry fee to enter, and there are many restaurants near the temple.
