About Tawang
The small town Tawang is located in the eastern Himalayan Mountains, in the state Arunachal Pradesh. It is an important Buddhist center in northeast India. Sitting about 3048 meters above from sea level, it is known for many important and beautiful monasteries and is famous as the birthplace of the Dalai Lama. Tawang is a place that will wrap you up in the scent of natural beauty. There has a 400 years old huge monastery in Tawang, and they call it ‘Golden Namgyal Lhatse’. It is an important pilgrimage site for followers of Buddhism and this monastery is one of the biggest monasteries found in India. It has been recognized as the second largest monastery in the world.
